May 2023 Social Media Tips & Updates

    Updated: May 9, 2023

Navigating social media is hard because the trends are ever changing and it's not so easy to switch up tactics mid campaign. Still, it's good to stay in the know. Here are a few social media updates from some of our favorite platforms for May.

    Twitter

Twitter released insights on how the For You tabs determines which Tweets appear in your feed. The Tweets you see from accounts you follow are based on past interactions that predict how much you'll interact with those specific accounts in the future.

The For You page is similar, but based on the likes and interactions of the accounts you follow and engage with. Learn more about the algorithm here.

    TikTok

TikTok has launched a new thumbnail feature making it easier to find a specific part of any video.

Refresh is also a new feature that allows users to refresh their timeline if they feel the content on their feed doesn't speak to their interests.

TikTok also rolled out a number of other parental and content control amid controversy over whether or not the app will continue to be legal in the US. Read more here.

    The META-sphere (FB & IG)

Broadcast channels are the newest feature update introduced by META.

The broadcast feature originated on Instagram, giving creators the ability to send messages to their entire following at once in a single thread. While these channels can include all followers, creators also have the option to create channels with only paid subscribers. This feature rolled out on IG in February, but is now also available in Facebook Messenger.

Facebook also rolled out a new A/B testing feature within the Meta Business Suite. We'll report back on how much we like it next month.

    LinkedIn

Clubhouse walked so other platforms could run with audio features. LinkedIn now gives users the ability to host live audio-only conversations. Audio-only platforms are great for virtual events because they give people access without the pressure of being on camera. Read about this and other LinkedIn features here.

    Lemon8

Lemon8 is the newest social media platform. From the same parent company of TikTok, Lemon8 has gained traction with about 4.5 million active users already.

With Lemon8 you can create branded, aesthetically pleasing content in the app. It's a cross between Instagram and Pinterest. Lemon8 is the perfect platform for influencers and people wanting to push paid promotions and UGC.
